Short version
Big Nope doesn’t have accounts, doesn’t have a login, and doesn’t collect anything about you personally. You pick a state, you see recalls. That’s the whole interaction.
What we don’t collect
No user accounts, no sign-in, no forms that ask for your name, email, or location. No third-party analytics, no ad trackers, no fingerprinting. State selection stays in the page URL (e.g. /state/CA) — it isn’t stored against you anywhere.
Light/dark mode
Your theme choice is saved in your browser’s local storage, on your device only. It never reaches our servers.
Hosting and standard logs
The site runs on Netlify with a Neon Postgres database. Like any hosted site, our infrastructure providers may keep standard technical logs (e.g. request timestamps, IP addresses) for security and reliability — this is infrastructure-level logging, not something Big Nope collects, reads, or uses to identify visitors.
The recall data itself
Every recall shown on this site is public data published by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. None of it is about you or generated from your visit — see our Terms for how we handle that data.
External links
Links to FDA.gov and our Ko-fi page take you off this site. Their privacy practices are their own, not ours.
Children
Big Nope isn’t directed at children, but since we don’t collect personal information from anyone, we don’t collect it from children either.
Changes
If this changes — say, we ever add analytics or accounts — we’ll update this page and the date above first.
